The Shepherds Hut @ Crean Mill

The Shepherds Hut itself is set in a private location in the large wild garden of ‘Crean Mill’ – an old Cornish mill set a in peaceful, beautiful wooded valley bordered by a stream with a bluebell wood.

The Shepherds Hut was hand built by Steve, who is a professional craftsman and builder. It measures 5.5 metres x 2 metres – the ‘wriggly tin’ fits in with the old Mill surroundings – and we would like to think this is where the old Miller could retreat after a hard day working at the mill wheel grinding his corn!

The Hut is surrounded by water on 3 sides – a tumbling, trout filled stream right outside the front door (which makes its way down to gorgeous Penberth Cove and into the Atlantic) – 2 ponds which attract Ducks, Moorhens, Herons, Kingfishers and Dragon and Damselflies …we’ve even spotted an Otter in the stream!

The natural garden is a wild oasis overflowing with Tropical Ferns, Banana Plants, Succulents, Camellias, Rhododendrons, Hydrangeas, Daffodils, Bluebells and Snowdrops. The garden attracts many types of birds – Woodpeckers, Jays, Blackcaps, Skylarks – so there’s always lots to see and hear! We also have Owls in abundance which will hoot you to sleep – along with the noise of the water! We have Deer living in the woods and can be seen sometimes when they are not being shy!

The night skies are amazing – this is a dark sky area with no light pollution and the Milky Way can be seen on a clear night.

Guests have their own private seating area by the stream with a reclaimed Indian Kadai fire bowl with BBQ grill – and guests are more than welcome to wander around the garden and find somewhere else to relax too.

There is parking on site 100 yards from the Hut – a wheelbarrow is at hand for your luggage!

We have made the inside of the hut as user friendly as possible and – guests have said we have thought of everything – but we are always open to suggestions if you think there is something missing…!

Thoughtfully sourced bits such as the reclaimed fold up chairs from an old Indian cinema and the hand crafted mini dining table that folds down out of the way, Alessi, Cath Kidston and Melin Tregwynt bits and bobs. A comfy double bench seat for two and games and books for your use.

From the hand-built kitchen featuring a mini Belfast sink, small fridge (not so small that you cannot fit your champers in it!), electric two ring hob, microwave, kettle and toaster – you have everything you need to be totally self sufficient – along with the Kadai fire pit/BBQ grill right outside the door for your al fresco evening meals. The hut is full equipped with all the crockery and utensils you need for your stay.

Tea and coffee are provided along with bath towels, hand towels, bath mat, hand soap, 2 tea towels, washing up liquid and cleaning materials. Please remember to bring your own beach towels if required!

The contemporary en-suite has an electric shower, basin and fully flushing toilet with the added luxury of underfloor heating and a large heated towel rail. Hairdryer is provided.

The wood burner makes the evenings lovely and cosy for those chilly nights.

There is no TV but we do provide a Roberts Revival DAB Radio, games and local interest books – plus the hut offers superfast WiFi.
